Situated at an altitude of 4200 mtrs Dzongri is one of the best treking routes of India.
The Dzongri trek starts from Yuksom, the erstwhile capital of Sikkim.The trek route offers some incredible combination of forest and mountain.The Dzongri trek trail runs through moss-laden forests of oak, pine, chestnut,maple, magnolia and rhododendron culminating in the meadows of Dzongri at 4,200 meters above sea leavel. Dzongri trail is a naturalist’s paradise.
The trek starts from Yuksum and ends at Dzongri.Yuksam literally means ‘meeting place of the three lamas’ and was the old capital of Sikkim. The trek trail passes through Saachen,Bakkhim,Tshokha and Phedang. The trek is moderately tough.
In the beginning of seventeenth the Red Hat Sect of Buddhists were forced to seek refuge in Sikkim. Lama Lhatsun Chempo, on his journey to Sikkim, arrived at Norbugang in Yuksam, where he met two other lamas, Sempa Chempo and Rinzing Chempo. Together they began converting the people into their faith.The lamas sent an envoy in search of the king . The search party returned with Phuntsog Namgyal. In 1641 Phuntsog Namgyal was crowned as the first king of Sikkim, the Chogyal.
